Reframing the framing business

A breakthrough business in an industry that has barely changed in centuries, Pop-up Frames launched their small pop-up frames last year which feature on Create & Craft TV. They 're sold online and offline at a RRP from £5 through various independent retailers and galleries across the UK. Pop-up Frames is now launching their Medium and Poster self-assembled framing kits which can be cut into 38 different sizes from 21cm up to 92cm using just a pair of scissors, and then assembled in a few minutes and hung without damaging the wall. The RRPs are from £7 and £12.50 respectively.

"It really is a disruptive product," said inventor and entrepreneur Roger Felton, who designed the product, "we know this because we have been able to secure international patents. There is simply nothing quite like Pop-up Frames anywhere else."

They allow parents, first-time home owners, students, schools and anyone else on a budget to quickly create frames for things that might otherwise be filed away - things like photos, postcards, posters, prints, certificates, album sleeves, poems, kids' art, sketches, cuttings, memorabilia and autographs. And - thanks to the mounting pads - the contents of the frames can be changed as often as they like.

As the kits are flat-packed in postal boxes, retailers can efficiently display and store them as well as cost effectively deliver them.

The frames and the new packaging are certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC), they're recyclable and they're made in Europe so transport and waste is minimised, making Pop-up Frames a super eco-friendly picture frame supplier and manufacturer.

When his wife, Kate, launched her career as an artist, the cost of framing her sketches for local art fairs was an issue she struggled with, which spurred Roger into conceiving Pop-up Frames.

"It wasn't easy," he said. "In fact it took years, of trial and error, cutting and recutting and working closely with print finishers and paper companies. The positive feedback we've had from retailers and customers has made all the effort worthwhile. "Our vision is to get everyone to fill their walls with the things they love because Pop-up Frames are affordable, versatile and inspire creativity."
