79 RETAILER INTERVIEW What craft or new trend are you currently excited about? I’m really excited about the resurgence of colourwork knitting, particularly for accessories like mittens and socks. It’s such a creative way to personalise projects and use up smaller amounts of yarn. I’m also loving the growing popularity of crochet, with textured patterns and granny squares making a big comeback. Do you visit any trade shows? Yes, I recently attended h+h in Cologne, one of Europe’s largest trade shows for crafts and hobbies. It’s always a brilliant opportunity to discover new brands, connect with suppliers, and spot upcoming trends. Since it’s held every March, we’re planning to attend again this year to keep Tangled Yarn stocked with fresh and exciting products. Are you active on social media? How is this useful for the business? We’re very active on Instagram, where we share updates, product news, and inspirational knitting and crochet projects. Social media is a fantastic way to connect with our community, engage with our customers, and showcase what makes Tangled Yarn unique. It also helps us reach a wider audience beyond the shop. You can find us @tangledyarnuk Do you have any plans for the future of the store? I’d love to bring back in-person workshops, as they’re a great way to connect with our customers and support their learning. Does the company participate in any charity work? Yes, supporting breast cancer causes is very close to my heart. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017, and since then, Tangled Yarn has worked to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer charities. The knitting and crochet community has been incredibly supportive, and it’s inspiring to see how our craft can make a difference for such an important cause. Do you have any tips for people looking to start their own retail venture? Focus on what makes your business unique and listen to your customers - they’ll often guide you in the right direction. Building strong relationships with your community is key, as is having a good online presence to complement your physical store. Finally, stay organised - it’s essential when managing both an online and inperson business. What’s the one product you couldn’t live without? A good set of Chiaogoo interchangeable knitting needles! They’re so versatile and an absolute essential for any knitter, making every project more enjoyable and efficient.
