39 CRAFT TRENDS FOR 2024 We speak to movers and shakers in the world of craft and stationery to find out what’s going to be big over the next 12 months Crafting continues to evolve, becoming more and more accessible with all age groups and demographics embracing the trend. I’ve even spotted McFly’s drummer Harry Judd on Celebrity Race Across the World get obsessed with tapestry stitching, joking to his mum in the show that it’s the ‘the new rock’n’roll’. Crafting kits really do have the power to transform amateurs into enthusiasts into skilled designer/makers and unearth hidden talents. We’ve seen growth in the number of pure craft and bigger brands offering craft products at both Spring & Autumn Fair. And especially those focusing on sustainability, using materials that have either been sourced ethically or are recycled and recyclable. The range of kits now available just keeps building, from embroidery, jewellery and modelling kits, to baking, homewares, and keep sakes. We’re seeing an increase in crafting trends for crochet, Terrazzo, custom jewellery, scrapbooking, and macramé. The satisfaction and mental health benefits which come from making, creating or building something are really rewarding for the individual and even more if this becomes a treasured keepsake or a gift. The custom jewellery trend is a great way to add a bit of extra personality into your outfits. Retailers are also diversifying, so you’ll now find crafting kits in garden centres, independent gift shops and book shops, as well as your destinational craft multiples. Crafting kits are definitely becoming more accessible and celebrated in retail and are no longer just found in a small corner of the shop. It’s a very exciting growth sector and we look forward to welcoming some inspirational crafting businesses to Spring Fair in February and see these trends come to life. Spring Fair brands stock exciting and in-demand products including baking, homeware, cooking, knitting, and stitching kits as well as other hands-on craft items. These are just some of the leading craft brands already confirmed to attend the show: Crafty Kit Company, Toft Knit and Crochet, Wilton Bradley, Tallon, and Fun Stickers. Bhavika Pattni, Key Account Director, Spring Fair www.springfair.com One of the many benefits of visiting Stitches every year is the chance to see the craft industry in one place – providing a helicopter view of the trends to come for the year ahead. A noticeable trend at this year’s CHSI Stitches trade show was a shift away from muted pastel colours to stronger colours and earth tones—greens, reds, and deep blues. Alongside these, I think we can expect to see bursts of ‘digital brights’ and hypersaturated hues. We’ve also seen an uptake in crafts such as macramé, weaving, and pottery and we predict that hybrid crafting, integrating digital technology like 3D printing or AR into traditional crafts, will continue to gain momentum. As we look towards 2024 we can see a year of balanced contrasts—earth colours with digital brights, tactile crafts with technological elements. We look forward to welcoming visitors to Stitches 2024 to see these trends come to life, forecast for themselves the themes for 2025 and kick-start what promises to be another dynamic year in crafting.
